FFN Social Media Toolkit

Make your voice heard!

What Happened:

In the 2022 legislative session, child care advocates across Washington are stressing the importance of informal care from family, friends, and neighbors to the legislators who are in charge of writing the budget for Washington. We know how important these forms of care are to families in Washington who need flexible and culturally-appropriate care for their children, but we need legislators to learn that too.

Our next step:

We need to get online and reinforce to budget writers why these investments are important for Washington!

Take action:

  1. Send legislators a message yourself (English / Spanish )
  2. Use the toolkit below to encourage others to help

How do I know if legislators in my district are on budget-writing committees?

Our letter-writing action tool well tell you if the legislators from your district are on these committees or not. If your district’s legislators did not participate in the hearings, you can still urge committee chair-people to prioritize these investments using the hashtag #WALeg on social media, or encourage your networks to take action too! Our toolkit below has all of the images and text you need to act now.

Child care by a Friend, Family, or Neighbor (FFN) is commonly chosen type of care for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color families in Washington, because parents trust FFN caregivers to care for the children within their family’s home culture and language. This pandemic makes scheduling hard for parents. Work schedules change, schools close, and child care availability fluctuates almost every day. We know that more families are relying on child care from Friends, Families, and Neighbors (FFN Care), so let’s make sure they have the support they need to provide our children with high-quality early learning opportunities! Tell our budget writers in the #WALeg that investing in FFN care is good for all of us! https://bit.ly/FFNinWAbudget
